After a long delay entering the property this morning I managed to get some wide angle pictures. The security guard had no knowledge that we were allowed in. I made calls to three numbers before another diver got through and gave the phone to the guard. After saying, "Yes Sir" several times he finally let us in.
We can now park in front of the hotel, making the hike to the water less than half the distance it was. My wagon and my back thank them.
Conditions weren't great, but visibility was just good enough for wide angle.
After spending time at the Point I made my way back to the cove and fed Abby, my pet abalone.

Of course, there's nothing like a Marineland nudibranch dive.

My job with the Navy takes me out to San Diego from Virginia Beach a few times a year. I usually lug my dive gear with me and have done a mix of shore and boat dives over the years. Some of my most enjoyable dives have been soloing at La Jolla Cove, and your pictures bring back some great memories. It makes me miss San Diego. I'm out there next in February for 10 days...and I will be sure to bring my drysuit!

Nice shots Phil & thanks for the info.

nice shots :)

Unbelievable Max! Some great shots! Makes me think I should have dove Marineland instead of Malaga on Friday. I was wondering if you think the security guards will be giving easier access now, since you've got their superiors involved? Even though Ara told me that I can get access if "safe" during the week, I'm still reluctant to try without some credible backing especially after seeing what your experience was. Looks like you had a fun time, when I get a weekend I'm not working I might have to out with ya'll. That is if you don't mind having a newb in your team.:poke:

It sounds as if the access will only be available on Sundays when the construction guys are off. The new access is scheduled to open November 13th. As of now, the trail is even shorter than the original one.

The soft structures and the color in Southern California are amazing. I enjoyed your pictures -- they brought back memories (although I haven't dived Marineland, and from the descriptions of the entry, I probably won't :) )
