He's on the big side, maybe a new world record.

I've done several dives in Boca Grande pass, just not this time of year :)

Actually, that's why you might not be scared to dive there anymore - Hitler is gone. 750 lbs, what a shame. I plan to dive for the clean up again next year as well.

Walter, this wasn't the only hammerhead in the pass, nor the largest. Also, there's still the packs of bull sharks to keep us occupied :).

It is a shame, though.

I think it is sick they killed this shark, took some pictures, and according to the News-Press, buried it somewhere in the sticks near Labelle. I am all about fishing, but to kill a fish like this for a photo is way wrong.

These guys are going to have to do all sorts of good deeds to appease the fish gods as that is all sorts of bad karma. The fishing gods could care less about world records.

That's really sad.

Bozos.

I don't mind fishing for the shark or killing it. But just burying it? That is just not right. If you hunt, eat what you hunt or stay at home.

I may be wrong, but I doubt a 700+ pound hammerhead makes for good grilling.

i'm not touching this one with a 10 ft pole(literally), but FWIW this is my understanding[not what I know to be true, only what the grapevine has thus far yielded(or the orange grove, if you choose)]....the anglers involved contacted many agencies, including MOTE to try and donate the carcass for research to no avail.....also, from what I understand, hammers do not have a urinary tract like many other sharks....they basically urinate throughout their entire body, making the possibility of shark steaks on the grill sound not so appealing???....either way, I'm not issuing an opinion on this one....once again, only what I have heard!
