For most non-technical, recreational diving the A3 is a perfect fit. This is why many of us that dive together love it:
1) You can still install an octo if you want to and have it as a 3rd air source
2) Convenience of location and less hoses, no additional straps, etc.
3) The AS3 is built like a regulator 1st and an inflator 2nd unlike the AS2. Easy breathing.
4) Easy to find when the OOA dive grabs your primary since you use it for buoyancy on a regular basis anyway
5) One less port taken up on your 1st stage that allows you to hook up more LP toys.
If you don't like them, don't buy one.
If it does not fit your style of diving, don't buy one.
I use one and love it. There are times I use a pony bottle so I have 3 sources of gas.
When I go to the IDC, I will be adding my octo back onto my 1st stage since I know I will need one for that.
