Why not wear a helmet?

Yup, I can see the need for helmets in certain cases.

I'm looking into getting one for difficult shore entries/exits (complicated by surf) and for wreck penetration, afterall, smashing your head open on an iron beam is a tough price to pay for a second of not paying attention or a wave surge.

I've seen many people wearing hemets on charter boats here in NE.
