while it's hard to tell actual size through the video - I believe I've seen one bigger

down in Roatan I was at about 45 feet, probably 15 to 20 feet below me was a huge grouper, just hanging out by the wall - I'd estimate it was about 5 feet long

Now I really wish I had a camera on that dive.

The video doesn't really do this fish justice...He was a seriously LARGE fish. His mouth was easily large enough to swallow my head. You can imagine how I felt when I stumbled upon him in a dark swim through.

haha - I can imagine it was a bit of a shock

350 seems like a big estimate for this fish. You're talking about the one that swam out of the swim thru right? It didn't appear to be anywhere close to 350 when seen next to the other fish.

There's one that hangs out on/in the Spiegel Grove that literally fills one of the doorways. I dropped down face to face with him. There was about 12 inches of room above and below him. One guy who was a spear fisherman on the dive estimated him at better than 350.

His mouth was easily large enough to swallow my head.

That's just the way we used to describe Groupers back when there were a lot of ig ones.

One that could swallow a...

A Standard (old fashioned) Desk "rotary telephone" 85~125#
A diver's head 125~175#
A volleyball #175~215
A basketball #215~275
A 18 Pound Turkey 275#+

This dates back to a time (the early 80's) when the big guys were rather common, like "Bugsy" in Cayman, just South of Georgetown. 350 Pounds of meat who hung with "Snaggletooth", the 7.5' Barracuda.

350lbs is a number the divemaster gave me. According to him this fish is a regular. I can believe the 350...as I said the video doesn't do the fish justice. I might be able to find a more impressive pic.

You looking at me.

This little guy was in Roatan and only about 3 1/2 feet long. The grouper is easily one of my favorite fish, I just love it when they follow you around like a puppy during a dive.
