Why is the instructor to instructor section private? I’m a big fan of Scuba Board- just having questions on how this adds value to the community. Thoughts- or insight welcomed to help me understand this. Is there something going on privately that cannot be shared?
Yes, there are things going on that can't be shared. For one thing, we are all actually sworn to secrecy. Anyone revealing the contents of a discussion in the Instructor to Instructor forum can be barred from that forum.
Why is it secret? So that instructors can be totally honest with each other and seek advice from each other with regard to students who may be on ScubaBoard. If you were my student and we were having a problem, I might ask my fellow instructors how I might best handle the situation. I wouldn't use your name, so no one in the I2I forum would be likely to know I was referring to you, but if it were on the open board, you would almost certainly know it was you to whom I was referring. You might see it and be offended. You might see it and lose confidence in me. You might see it and learn a psychological trick I was planning to use to get you past a hurdle and as a result, you might not get past the hurdle. There's no good that can come from non-instructors reading the I2I forum and lots of harm.
For the most part, there are no threads in I2I (well, one thread was moved there to hide it, but several of us have been lobbying to get it returned to the open board where it belongs - we were successful with another thread recently) that would hold any interest for folks not teaching diving.
