Hi Dee

The Army paid for most of my travels. The rest were for jobs (chemical weapons disposal in the S. Pacific) and for dive trips.

Asta1227 once bubbled...
I was a travel nurse for 4 years. I did short-term contracts all over the counrty.

Why??

To get the heck out of Delaware.

Traveling where Uncle Sam sends you is one thing but living in different places like you did is very interesting to me. I have a friend who does that and he's been in all but 2 states in the continental US.

I loved it Dee! I had some great experiences I will never forget. It was wonderful to be able to spend time in different parts of the country. I never realized how truly vast and beautiful this country is and how diverse it all is!!

My answer is my husband is in the Air Force.

We met when we were both in Grand Forks, North Dakota (by the way, many AF people give it a bad rap but once they get there and see the clean air, good schools, low low crime, and descent cost of living, they often stay to either raise their kids or retire), both of us were in Graduate School.

Since then we have move about every 18 months due to his job:

Grand Forks, ND
Fargo, ND
Andrews AFB, Maryland
Laurel, MD
Minneapolis, MN

and now possibly Patrick AFB, FL

Is it a pain to move, you bet. Would I pass up the marriage to stay put, NO WAY!

My ex-husband was in the Army. It was wonderful to live overseas, we opted to live on the economy instead of on a base. What a wonderful experience.

Now I plan on focusing on this country, so much to see right in our own back yards...

Yup, as a kid, every four years we'd move. So the 1st 5 moves of my life I was tagging along. All the other moves were local moves, except San Pedro, CA. My husband (now ex) was transfered out to CA. We were told it was a permanent move, so we sold our house. One year later, were brought back. If I'd known that I probably would have stayed in Illinois.

I was just a wee lad when my parents moved from the states to NZ. I was mainly along for the ride until i finished high school. I was in the service after High School and i moved to the East Coast. Back in So. California now.

We currently live in Michigan, and haven't been happy anyplace else.

Like so many others on this list, I joined the Army at 21 and left MI to see the world and kill the people who lived there (just kidding !!!!). I was stationed in Hawaii in the 70's for three years and started diving. Next tour took us to Georgia where I was an electronics instructor. Then a Civil Service job in Washington DC with the FBI, more electronics. We bougth a couple houses in Maryland over a 12 year stay, but always felt like visitors, just waiting to go back to MI. Finally, a job with the phone company appeared and I made the move, followed by the family six months later.

It seems like I was never really happy living anywhere but here in Michigan and I doubt that we'll move out of state again, unless it is to stay in a job with the phone company. The diving is good here, but the water is so darn cold, so we take a trip down to Florida and get on a cruise ship about every other year in the winter so I can dive in warm water for a change.

Home is where the heart is, and my heart never left Michigan....
