Just put my deposit down today. I had to wait until now because I wasn't sure about my work schedule. Glad I can add a red dot to the mid atlantic region of the map. I'll be going by myself, but from reading all the posts, I'm getting the feeling finding a buddy won't be too hard :D

If anyone has any secret tips for flying cheaply from bwi/dca/iad, please let me know. I'm so excited. Dive, Dive, Dive. If I can get enough in, I might make my 100th dive during this trip!

Welcome aboard Bmore. You wont have any trouble hooking up with a dive buddy. The last time we stayed at this hotel and dove with Dive Paradise, we were on the same boat the whole week so you will have no trouble having someone to dive with the entire week.

There have been several posts on on this thread as to airfare for this trip. I would check them first. Airfares do go up and down depending on which day you buy. Personally, I would stay away from flying into Cancun. It might be cheaper, but you have to get from the airport to the dock for the ferry and have to schlep gear through that process.

And yes Cardzard, I am HIGHLY looking forward to night dives! I LOVE diving at night! As a single diver, I just hope others want to also and wouldn't mind me tagging along (I'm a very good buddy! I never wander off ). I don't want to go out and die by my lonesome, hehe.

I'm traveling solo also, and it seems there are quite a few of us who are. Hopefully we'll be able to team up and get a lot of shore and night diving in.

If anybody wants to go and needs a buddy all you gotta do is say so. :)

I'll be asking also!

All these photos and videos are making me want to buy a camera. They're just SO expensive!

I love taking pictures of my traveling, and not taking pictures just doesn't seem right. But I live in Kansas so I'm probably not going to be able to use the camera a lot, and I can't really justify spending big bucks on a professional quality camera. So I'm looking at an entry level camera from Intova. Either:

Intova 9.0MP Compact Digital Camera with 130' waterproof housing

or

Intova IC12 12mp Digital Camera with 180' Waterproof Housing

I know they're not going to take professional quality photos, especially without a strobe, but at least I'll be able to capture some of the action for my own pleasure later. And the reviews from the web site are pretty good.

One of the main reasons I've decided on Intova is they seem to have very good tech support on Scubaboard. While researching cameras I ran across some posts by a fella named IntovaJoe who seems very helpful while providing tech support and info to help out consumers who purchased Intova products.

I have flown into Cancun dozens of times. If a person really has a tough time getting on to Coz with their flight then the process to the ferry is not really that bad. There are porters if your gear is too heavy. When I have too many bags I pay a dollar a bag to be carried. It's never that far each time. I admit if it's your first time then the process will be test in travel prowess.
But if you can get the flight to the island and it isnt a lot more then for sure that obviously would be the best. For those that need to save some money, the bag drag is an adventure for sure. pm me if you want help with the schlep adventure. kevin

Yeah, I was hoping to do a night dive every night (well, given my pressure groups are low enough), so you can definately count on me to be a buddy! I should be really easy to spot too - I'm sure I'll be the only guy there with long hair and a goatee to match... but if there is a duplicate, I have a treble cleff tattoo on my arm as well.

And man, thanks a TON for posting those links for the Intova cameras. If I don't pick up a camera by the time of the trip, I will definately at least buy the $100 Intova. I'd like to have a really nice setup for taking great pictures, but prices are just ridiculous and I certainly can't save enough up before the trip to get one. And I'd honestly be happy just to have something to look back on - even if they are blurry or grainy. You really can't beat 100 bucks. And it's easily justified since the cost of renting one twice from dive paradise is the same price. I really wish I saw this before I did a dive with bullsharks a few months ago... there were at least 15 sharks and they were so close they were touching me, literally. I'm pretty upset that I don't have any photos of that! I don't want to miss out on any other great oppurtunities/memories. I love looking back at photos!!

Folks another option is to look in the classifed section here on the board, I see many nice camera rigs going for dimes on the dollar.

You never know, having a camera at this event just may pay off. ;)
