Does anyone know if Dive Paradise will still rent you a tank for shore diving if your boat trips are booked with a different dive Op? I'm going to Hotel Cozumel next Sunday but diving with Aqua Safari and like Jim I want to do as much diving as my computer will let me!!!

Jim,

My sons and I did the 7-5-4 thing over Christmas. Dive Paradise was great to have extra tanks available for us for shore dives. All they asked was to give them notice so they were sure to have them when we wanted them (at the time they had to bring tanks in by boat because of road construction which may or may not be done by June :) ). $6 each tank. From there it was just take off in a small pool, over a ledge, and off we went. Very convenient.

Correct Kevin

Can you say nightly shore dives :D
My gears at the dock and 6.00 tanks can life get any better.

Totally and that was my plan when we went down..until I got the flu on the third day. Goal for the trip was 20 tanks. I made it to 8, ug. So, June it is and I am up for night dives a plenty. My youngest hasn't as of yet completed a night dive so I am thinking this coming trip is the right time especially with shore diving so easy. If that goes well for him we might consider a night boat dive later in the week.

Right now it's running about $488+ taxes and fees from Ft. Lauderdale. I am hoping they go down a little bit at least.
Our situation is trying to find the best for the three of us that want to fly together. 2 of us in Ft. Lauderdale, one in Texas. It's a wash right now, us flying to Houston> Coz. Or my sister flying to FLL, then we go to Cancun >Coz..

Any advise on air fare to cozumel? Who has the best deal?

We live in central Illinois and have our options of flying out of Chicago (Ohare & Midway), Indianapolis or some of our regional airports to Cozumel. I had watched the fare that I wanted out of Bloomington with one stop in Atlanta "bounce" between $500 and $540 round trip. When it hit $500 (including fees and taxes) the last time I locked it in.

Since then, it has gone up to $888 after being in the $700s the last couple of weeks.

I dont know if this is unique to our situation, but if gas does go up to $4 a gallon this year like some people say that it will, I can only imagine that air fares will get a lot worse.

I price shopped off orbitz to find the airline/departure that I wanted then booked directly from Delta.

Also FWIW, American Airlines no longer has their fares on Orbitz or Expedia. You will need to get American's fares directly off their website.

For the peace of mind of having the tickets in hand and locking in a good price, I would not wait too long.

Hope this helps.

That is a big challenge for scuba divers these days, going anywhere. I use Sidestep.com/Kayak.com (same site) to shop for comparisons between airlines with selections that link to buying direct from airline sites usually - but you cannot trust shopping at airline sites, really. Sidestep does have American fares too, unlike Orbitz as mentioned. Expedia is boycotting American, but I never cared much for Expedia anyway.

And it gets frustrating. Glancing at your choices, American will do it for $426 RT but only if you overnight in DFW both ways = sucks!

When I uncheck the Overnight option, it jumps to $619 RT = sucks also!

When I check your options going thru Cancun tho, never my first choice but possibly acceptable if it will save me $100 or more - the more the better, and uncheck Overnight options, plus adjust return flight to noon or later so I can get back to the airport ok, now I see Delta for $471 RT. They have a lower fare but it leaves Cancun too early. This one gets you to Cancun by 1:24pm, doesn't return until 12:35pm.

I checked other airports within 100 miles of STL; no help.

The bus & ferries that run are nice, travel time to/from airport to hotel can vary, it's a hassle we Cozumel fanatics call the bag-drag but it's doable and worth it to be in Coz for a week. :eyebrow: More info at http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/in...s-cancun-some-cautions-finding-air-fares.html

Both of y'all can set up one or more fare alerts at Sidestep that will email you every morning. I think you told you that you haven't flown much? "Travel broadens the mind and deepens the soul," (I think I made that up myself decades ago; can't find it anywhere else?) and air travel is part of the adventure. Hehe, want to hear some wild tales?

Anyway, there is no need for your sis and you to fly in together. Meet in Coz; just get there the best for each.

Your fare from FLL-CUN did drop to $273 RT. Sweet! Don't be greedy. I always quote with taxes included but I think you were looking at something before taxes when we PMed.

Your sis can fly from IAH-CZM for $453 RT , and CUN is not cheap enough at $397 RT to go for that.

It'd cost $330 RT for your sis to fly IAH-CZM to then fly with you to CUN for $273 RT more so no point there - unless she wanted to spend some time in Florida too, then I would suggest a three leg tickets: IAH-FLL, FLL-CUN, CZM-IAH, which is doable for less.

Just consider air travel as part of the sport of scuba. I once left the house at 2am to catch a 5am flight to CUN, bus into Cancun city, cab to a dentist office, spent the afternoon there, cab back to bus, bus to Playa del Carmen, ferry to Coz, cab to hotel, and was on time for the 8am boat the next day - with camera! And that was with a plane change in Houston; most of y'all can fly Non-stop to CUN.

The important thing is to get there, as reasonably and cheaply as possible, but get there. Yeah, adventures expand at times, but live and learn as you go, then file Trip Insurance claims on any extra costs late. :D
