Hey all!

I really enjoy the whole kayak diving thing- you get to explore news sites that you couldn't do surface swims to, getting to new, out of the way places, etc. So I've bought a second boat to lend out to friends and introduce people to this technique.

If you'd like to come try out this new way of diving this weekend, I'd like to head out and explore some spots... I was thinking of hitting up a place in Malibu on one day and a place in Palos Verdes on the other day.

Want to give it a shot? I'll provide the boat and everything for just a $30 donation. All you need to do is provide your own scuba gear, be an experienced, proficient diver, be comfortable with your gear, and sign the waiver, and we're good to go!

If you want to give it a shot, PM me and let me know.

Update- Malibu is full, but there's still a spot open for a Palos Verdes site on Sunday. I'm flexible with time- whatever works best for you.

I got two boats as well. We can double up sometime!

Dette has two boats too...

So three of us, 6 boats. Nice.

I can give a little suggestion for kayak diving since we do a lot of it up here on the North Coast.
Recently I went to West Marine and bought a portable hand held depth finder that is water proof to 200 feet and is no bigger than a back up flash light. They list for around $129 but I got it for $90 something with my port supply card. This thing is cool since you can paddle out and know exaclty how deep you are just by pointing it down and pressing the button. It gives you an illuminated digital display of the depth. You can find reefs with it. You can also take it with you under water and if the vis is poor you can point it straight ahead of you and find reefs and obstructions that are not in view yet. This is a good feature if you are out in blue water and are looking for pinnacles that you cant get a visual on.
It also gives accurate water temps.

Here is one that I use on surface swims. It can go in a pocket or you can attach it like a backup light.

It's really helpful at La Jolla Shores and to find Deadman's Reef at Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach.

...but this thread it about kayaks. I'm sure that you would be able to find all sorts of cool features from a kayak using one of these!

Good stuff! I've been using a Humminbird depth finder to see the bottom terrain... and using a GPS to save my waypoints. I'm finding new sites right and left!

Awesome! Let's have a navy of pirate kayak divers one of these days!
I had a BEAUTIFUL kayak dive off Marineland today. Great vis- 30-40 feet, incredible big rock boulders, kelp everwhere. just lovely.

I should drag my kayak down to Socal and do some diving with you guys.
I have buddies down there that want to get me out bug diving.
