I just got my OW cert this past weekend, did my OW dives at Lake Norfolk in Arkansas, it was pretty awesome! I had fun with the class and it was pretty relaxed all around. Got some shoulder pain after the dive and started wondering if I had DCI, then realized I hadn't even gone below 40 ft and it was pretty unlikely...now I just want to go dive!

Should I get my AOW soon? Seems like if you "should" get it within weeks of getting your OW, shouldn't it just be included in the OW? OH well, who cares, let's go dive...

Your OW course should have prepared you to make novice dives with peers and certainly with other experienced divers. Getting a few dozen dives under your belt will let the basics begin to get automatic so you can focus on the new different dives and skills that AOW will introduce to you. Just be sure to stay within your training and comfort boundaries. A long shallow dive will do much more for you than a plunge into the depths.

To your point, AOW and what is now known as Rescue and then some were once part of the basic certification.

Go have fun. Come to Maine, I'll dive with you.

Pete

Congrats! Just got my cert this past weekend too. Pretty cool, huh?! I'm considering going for AOW soon as well, and then going for Rescue.

Like spectrum, I'll dive with you. . . if you come to my lake. But to find divers closer to you, use this board. At the top of the page, click on "forums" scan down the list till you find "Regional travel. . ." scan down this list till you find "Midwest Muck Divers" over the last few months there are a lot of divers in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma with experiences you can learn from. You can also send a private message by clicking on their name, if you need more answers.

Now that you know how big this board is. . . welcome.

Congrats your cert! Dive Safe!!

Congrats on your certification. I would suggest to just dive and get comfortable. You have time to get your AOW. Personally, I waited until I had a number of dives under my belt before I got my AOW, simply becuase I wanted to be more comfortable diving before I pushed myself to go deeper and farther.

Thanks for all the congrats & invites folks, I'll be diving as much as possible and posting pics when I can ;-) Probably plan on the AOW sometime next year.

Congratulations on your cert and welcome to the board.
I know exactly how you feel just wanting to get back into the water.
Right now Im just counting days untill I go off duty for a week and can go (pretty far from home) to dive :D
