Thanks to Rod Roddenberry, the Roddenberry Dive Team and the Sundiver Express, I had an opportunity to dive the oil rigs off Long Beach last Sunday. I'd dived those off Ventura years ago, but not these. Now anyone who says you need to go to the tropics to see great color needs to look at these frame grabs from the video I shot!

Thanks for posting the photos.
Very nice photos Dr. Bill, it looks nice and calm out there that day.
How is the diving out at the oil rigs, do you have to go deep >80-100' to see most of the underwater life?
Asking because the Magician has a trip coming up next week to 3 rigs, and would love to get a chance to do it.

Yes, very nice pictures. Thanks for posting them. The surface does look calm but I have read there can be a fair amount of current running through these rigs. Do you kick the entire time to photograph a spot on a piling or is there another technique I haven't heard about?

Looking forward to my first trip to that same rig. So far either the trip schedule never seems to line up with my free time or the trip sells out before I can organize a trip. These have, so far, proven to be very popular trips. Oh, and then there is the 4 hour drive to San Pedro....
