The reality is that the town residents are complaining. however its for 2 months out of the year when the water is warm enough to go swimming in. That is pretty much it!
And they do have a point, the Town has purchased the dock, and if they have not the area that the dock is located at is town property. Town residents like myself can rarely get parking at that location which fits about 10 cars due to the fact shops from outside the area are flooding the area early in the morning and not leaving until early in the evening training students who are not residents, taking the location away from the use of the residence.
Its at a point now that if 1 resident complains about the lack of parking we need 10 divers giving workable suggestions to that issue, reassuring the town and the residence who are not aware of our side of the story and what we as divers are doing to ensure the location remains safe for there children to use for swimming or whatever the do.
I have spoken to the coucilor who is at his wits end and is now taking the steps he feels needed.
And some of the solutions he has are.
- Require dive shops or instructors to register with the town... at which point the town will then decide the schedule availible to the shops and they can run there courses around that. This giving the town the ability to ensure there are not 2-3 shops on the site with 20 students and 20 cars..
- he has suggested making the area "Resident Permit Parking" only during peek times. This would be the little sticker we ( residents ) get in our taxes which gives us access to all town properties that outsides are required to pay for, and gives us access to park in special "resident Permit Parking" areas. He suggestion was to try and give the are open access until something like 11am during weekends thus giving divers the chance to do there courses earlier and leaving the area open for residents during the prime time.
- another suggestion was to make people buy parking permits, Thus they have to register there vehicles with the town and when an issue is brought up they know who you are and how to contact you. And then allow Special permit parking during alloted hours..
Like i pointed out to him, reality is regulars use the site yearly.. town residence use it a couple of months a year and thats only if the weather has been nice! 9 out of 12 months of the year the parking area is rarely 1/2 full and that is your local divers who are there every week and the fishermen who are limited to the conditions and fishing seasons.
