I use free free fins in SE Asia, almost exclusively, except while teaching. In my limited experience, carbon fiber fins do not hold up after a season on a LOB. Although I am careful with my fins, the fins gets tossed on the deck, or someone might step on them while on the dingy. I use a Mares free dive fins with removable blades. They hold up OK, although the metal clips come off after a few months. I stay trim in moderate current and safely deal with divers that struggle in currents.

For free diving, i choose fins based on stiffness, fit and materials of the foot pocket.
