It may not revolve around scuba diving (it concentrates on freediving), but The Big Blue is a great flick.

Are you nuts? He said he wanted a great movie. I love diving and anything to do with diving, but that movie was a piece of .....
ow man cummon that was great..
i laughed so hard i think i pee'ed a little bit :)

I finally got around to renting "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou".

What can I say, I generally like Bill Murray and figured, "How bad could a movie be that has diving in it?"

As it turns out: Bad! Not just bad! Really, really awful! Two hours of my life I'll never get back. Even the universally hated "Open Water" was at least shorter by about forty minutes and had some good reef scenes at the beginning. I thought Life Aquatic might possibly have a good Cousteau parody, even that falls flat. If you were trying to make a bad movie you couldn't make it this terrible. :11:

With the holidays coming up and people maybe getting a little time off work, you might be tempted to go ahead and rent this at Blockbuster. If you do, don't say I didn't warn you. ;)

There are some very long and complete threads on this subject, but I never miss a chance to plug the movie that got me interested in diving back when I was but a lad: The Creature From the Black Lagoon.

Now that was diving. Double hose regs, no BCs, no computers, no SPGs, only strong manly-men and beautiful females pitted against the most horrible of creatures, all set in 200 foot visibility.

Nice...

I actually LOVED The Life Aquatic... Maybe because I have a bit too much in common with those interns?

Glocks? Dynamite? A topless scriptor? Random performances of David Bowie songs in Portugese? What's not to love?

***WARNING*** Whatever you do, don't rent "Sphere" --- Okay, you've been warned.

QUICK TAKE: Science-Fiction/Thriller: A team of scientists finds themselves trapped on the bottom of the ocean next to a centuries old spacecraft that contains a sphere capable of reading their thoughts and nightmares and turning them into reality.

How did you manage to sit through it? On a flight awhile back, I had the option of watching this movie. After about 15 minutes, I was totally fed up, and decided to play "Bejeweled" instead.... so you know it had to be bad!

Yeah, I know, you PAID for it! Sorry about the two hours gone from your life, though.
LOL

+1 on Creature from the Black Lagoon

One of my favorite movies of all time, actually. Great cinematography for the time, and excellent costuming. The two sequels really didn't match the quality of the first one, although the series did debut Clint Eastwood in his first movie role.
