Just curious to see how many people keep their log book up to date. I download my dive computer to pc and fill in as much as possible. Going on trips though, if I dont have a log book I will forget the name of the dive sites (mmmm....nitrogen..)

I write up the site info, sitings and stats on my slate, then transfer that along with a bit more narative to my log as soon as I'm in a dry area. Now that I have a Vyper computer, when I get home, I also download the info from it into the on-line dive manager.

I have a separate numbeing system for cave dives as well. Like I'll write 126 c-10, that's total dive #126 and cave dive #10. I even have my buddies make comments in the notes if they want to, they sign off on the dive and if I'll diving thru a shop or charter they usually have stamps for your log book as well. I include max depth, time (keep track of my total bottom time since dive #1) weights used, exposure suit worn, conditions.

I carry a cheap notepad in a ziploc bag with a pencil in my dive bag and write down all the info when I get back on the boat. Since I use a paper log book, I don't want to chance getting it soaked on the boat so I just transfer the info when I get back on land.

it is nice to log them all, even those you have already done, cuz you can compare after one tho the other if there were any changes, such as wreck or bottom composition.

Me!

I love keeping track of things and they keep my mind wandering off when dry...

Nice occasion for e-mail addresses and stamps.:jester:

Me. Do sketches of wreaks, track weight/exposure suit, critters seen, air used, nitrox pct., etc., etc.

O-ring, nice idea w/paper and ziplock. My slate doesn't always hold everything (and neither does my memory!)

lakesdiver - you make me look like a logging simpleton. My logs are so boring that people cringe when I get them out. I really need to add more detail to my logs from now on. Quick sketches of key features is a great idea...now if I could only draw..;)

I have been login my dives, but I have not been as detailed as some on this list.

Most dives list
Name of dive/location
Fish seen
Type of wreck if any
Dive partner
Air used
Max depth
Bottom time
Amount weight
Type of cylinder
And any odd things that happen

I honestly need to get a bigger log book to write down everything I want to keep track of.

Darian,

I think you are right on target...I am in the same boat. I have those standard (not sure if they are PADI, NAUI or what) log book sheets in a binder and they are way too small to get into the level of detail that some people have in their log books.

I think I will look for a larger book and start a new, improved dive log.
