the rules of war (Geneva Convention or US rules of engagement?) prohibit using .50 cal rounds on enemy personnel???? Why?

Is there a similar restriction on rate-of-fire to be used against personnel?

I've never independently verified this. However, we were told that it was against the Geneva Convention to use large caliber weapons against troops. It may have also related to rate of fire.

What I specifically remember is that JAG guy saying "Sergeant, the M-2 cannot be used against troops. Report to my office after the brief."

Thats a new one on me. In Germany we used the
.50 on troop targets on all the ranges including
Range 42 the Army tank qualification course.

The ground mount wouldn't make much sense
if you could only fire on equiptment. Also the
telescopic sight [yes, the M2 is tapped for one]
and the single shot setting.

Well even if you couldn't shoot them with
the 50 you could always blow them to hell
with the main gun. In a humane way of course.:D

Could a moderator change the topic of this thread from Who is you favorite Troll to What is your favorite gun. :D

OK, so back on topic. I'm still in favor of Genesis. Karl the Krazy Konsumer (aka Genesis) has everyone else beat hands down.

Lawman declines the honor. Jepuskar is only looking for love. Genesis is capable of making issues out of anything.

a .50 cal? That would be used against exclusively against personnel.

I've never been in the military, but these restrictions seem ludicrous...a bullet is a bullet.

(I agree with changing the thread title, the favorite troll thing was dull, at least the weapon stuff is interesting...)

Being a former Army EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) troop, I know one of the uses of the .50 cal sniper rifle is for cluster bomb submunitions disruption.

An EOD tech. has a whole field of armed fuzed munitions to deal with? Two choices; 1. Deal with them by hand. 2. Set up a comfortable set of sandbags and a thermos of coffee and shoot the submunitions. Which would you choose? :boom:

Hey lets get back to the troll stuff. Good diving trolls

Hey lets get back to the troll stuff. Good diving trolls
...but to steer it back on topic (this feels weird for a change...) I think Genesis and Scuba can troll up a storm. Remember when they teamed up in that DIR thread?...they had us all going for hundreds of posts. Jepuskar and Lawman are a different type of troll, but equally valid. Jepuskar was after Lawman's anti-DIR title with his post earlier, but somebody edited it.

To sum it up (not all their posts mind you...just the "trolling" ones):

Genesis - the Ralph Nader of scuba and conspiracy theory troll

Scuba - the Socrates of scuba and weaver of exasperating rhetoric

Jepuskar - just plain vanilla offensive

Lawman - official poster boy for the DIR Sucks campaign (also known to annoy the ladies in their forum)

I say we get them all t-shirts or something...every board needs a good troll or two....or is that every bridge that needs trolls? *shrug*
