So I've been staring at/drooling over the new Aqualung Kronos regs that have come out this year. I love the side exhaust (for underwater photography, not disturbing my mask, and for the claim that a heat sink uses exhaust breath to warm the second stage to prevent freeze flows...important here in the PNW..especially up in the mountain lakes...).

However...I'm a big chicken and leary of new designs..especially the first generation. So who is going to buy one and put it through its paces? Anybody have one yet? Any reviews?

Let me know!

Cheers,
Austin

Hi Austin,

Haven't had one to test yet, but had a good look at one at DEMA. Should be alright – manufacturers have been using heat sinks to prevent freeflows for years, so that's proven technology, and the reg is as you'd expect with a standard second stage, it is only the exhaust that vents the air to the side – it is not a true side-exhaust as a Poseidon Jetstream or Cyclone.

I'll let you know what I think once I've given it a bash.

Looking forward to it, Mark!

I'll try to pester the local guys into letting me take a loaner out here shortly too...put it through its paces in the local 50 degree water at the coast.

Let's keep each other posted!

Cheers,
Austin

Should get my hands on one in the next month, as we are doing budget, mid-priced and expensive regs in a group test, and I would presume, that being a new release and all, that it will be one of the ones that they send me.

I'll let you know.

It may be the replacement for my Omega when shooting. I used Poseidon for years but they are just to expencive.

Did either of you get to try this regulator out yet? How smooth is the breathing? How does it compare to the rest of the other regulators?

I'd love my MK25T/S600T for what it does - very smooth breathing and very verstatile/adjustable.

I would like to add a secondary/backup regulator. This seem like a good candidate for that - I'd like the idea of that side exhaust.

Another option is the extended exhaust tee ("bubble deflector") that you may be able to find if you search the net somewhat thoroughly (discontinued, and only available in the UK when they were around). Goes on a variety of ScubaPro regs (which are known to be fantastic), including my S600, and does a really good job of keeping the bubbles out of your face.
