The water was great. Temps in the mid 70s above the thermocline. Plenty toasy in a 5mm below. Had some bouyancy issues since we used tanks that were different from what we both were use to. (AL80 vs. the steel72s that the LDS comps us - they had too many students this weekend and ran out before we made it to the store for pick up. My own tank is the only thing I don't have yet equipment wise. After today's adventures, it's looking tempting.) Visabilty wasn't the best, but it was still a good dive. We followed around an open water class that one of Joe's friends was in, so that was something different for us.

Here's the link to the web page for Whitestar if you'd like to check it out:

And for Portage as well:

Gilboa is actually the closest one to where I live and the one that we've visited least recently of the three, so chances are we'd decide on it anyways. If you can make it, awsome. If not, some other time.

Ooooh- thanks for the links! I'm too lazy to google anything myself. I figure if I just wait long enough someone will post the link for me! Yay!

Glad it was nice there. I drove down to SODA in Dayton and got my part... I wasn't too impressed with the guy who tried to replace the battery cover for me. He wouldn't just let me take the thing apart even though he didn't know how to do it (tried prying it until I pointed out the two little screws in the back)... then instead of using a quarter like I said, he grabbed a nickel and proceded to dig out the epoxy (which was holding fine if I used a quarter...). So now I'll have to RE-epoxy the dang thing. I think I'll just leave it as is until I get back from Hawaii (I just LOVE how that sounds... ). If it ain't broke, don't fix it... well, okay, it IS broke- but it's functioning fine...

I think for Hawaii I am going to buy a depth gauge- my only depth indicator is in the computer itself. I plan to use a backup to my computer by using my Timex (yep, cheapie and comes with all kinds of disclaimers that it is not intended for dive use- but waterproof up to way deeper than I plan to go...) and my handy writing tablet. But if all goes south with my computer and I don't have a depth gauge, it's kinda hard to figure up your tables!

Every time I turn around I'm spending more freaking money on this stuff!

Ahhh- but it's worth it!

I want to practice timing my dives and get back in the habit before I leave- let's see... Wednesday with erparamedic, Saturday with Eckybay and "the chump", maybe a Sat. in Sept with Notso_ken and his buddy... I should be good to go.

I wonder if the OP is still reading all this. I feel sorry for her if she is! We're not even talking about the same subject any more!

First I was just going to get the BC and regs. Then I needed to get a waterproof watch to use as a timer. Then I found a deal on the wetsuit I wanted that I couldn't pass up. Then I just had to get a computer - and new regs since I gave "the chump" the ones that I had gotten a month and a half earlier :D I "needed" a new digital camera, so of course I had to get one that I could get an underwater housing for. And now I'm tempted to get a tank too so I don't have to worry about different weighting issues caused by using tanks that I'm not use to.

Of course it's very easy to rationalize since it's all "life-support" equipment.

When exactly is the Hawaii trip? It sounds great.

"The chump." Gee, thanks.

There's plenty worse things out there that you could called.....

Lol...very true. :)

Yeah- no one called you "the chimp" so that's a positive thing...

eckybay, I'm leaving Sept 14th so I want to get as many dives in as I can- I didn't dive from last September thru this August so I want to be as re-familiar with my gear as I can be so I enjoy the dives better. I am hoping to do as many shore dives as I can find people to dive with me on. I felt very good the last 2 times I went to Gilboa- but more couldn't hurt. Thus, I think I will probably puppy dog along with you guys to Long Lake (unless I find someone who is going to Gilboa- and then I'll drop you like a box of rocks! Oh- that's a mean, mean thing to say!).

Lol . . .I'd drop me like a box of rocks and go to Gilboa as well if I could, but I just got too much other stuff going on that weekend to make it up there. Long Lake is wet and you don't have to worry about being cold. Not promises much else in the way of positives though.

I think I might like "the chimp chump" Would that make a good pet name?
