Thanks for asking Ber.

It went GREAT!

When I first submerged to help my wife get her fins on in 4 ft of water, My lips were freezing. I thought well, I give it ten minutes max. WRONG!

Shannon was awesome. We went to the platform to play with bouyancy, and found that we were way overweighted. She dropped five pounds off on the platform. We swam around and saw the boat closest to the south wall, and thought we made a circle to head back to the platform. At about 750 PSI my tank slipped from the bcd, so Shannon and I knelt on the bottom and she reconfigured my tank for me. I was impressed with this in 42 degree water and 5mm gloves. By this time, I was down to 500 psi so we surfaced.

Our circle was more like a straight line. We had a long surface swim which was a bummer. By the time we got out, Shannon was cold. So we hopped in the tent, fired up the heater had some food and water. We spent a good chunk of time evaluating whether Shannon was going to be warm enough to get back in. After 30 minutes, we went for it with the purpose of determining a better approx of weight. I took my 500 psi tank and a bag of weights. Shannon wore her tank with 1250 psi. We buddied off of her tank, went to the platform and worked to determine neutral. I was fired up to be doing this with a 500psi tank as this will insure the ability to hold a safety stop. Shannon ended up with 14 pounds, and I at 19 pounds. Both down six from where we started. I expect that we will be able to drop more in the near future.

what we learned.

We can dive in 40 deg h20 and 40 deg air with only minor discomfort.

We both have an idea of how to weight in 7mm and fresh water

use a compass even if it is just casual use.

there is a lot more to see at white star.

I think we might be back next weekend......

See, we're not crazy! Glad you had fun! Cold weather diving just takes a lot more surface preparation to be enjoyable. When you have a place that big and water temps that low you learn to appreciate the ability to use a compass well LOL! The last place you want to be at the end of a dive is 100 yards from your exit point BRRRR!

Looking forward to seeing you at Gilboa!
