I saw a surf perch on a boogie board, does that count?
Seriously, Shark fishing in monterey Bay used to be my thing, we had a spot about 11 miles from moss landing, we would go out there by the edge of the trench and put out a bashket of frozen shredded fresh fish, it would leak a chum line as it melted, doing this I saw hundreds of sharks in monterey bay over the years, but all of them were Blue Sharks, all under 8 feet. We even tried to attrack white sharks without luck. You are more likely to see a blue shark than a white as there are more of them, but they are even more timid of us, unless you are a squid

Okay, I'll humor you and say that if you are postured at by a white shark, (or any shark, for that matter), the best thing you can to is stop swimming and be as still as possible. Put your arm around your buddy so you look like one big diver.
They don't *want* to eat you. They want the seals. People are too crunchy, especially while wearing scuba gear. :)

I didn't know white sharks postured. What are the visual indicators for this species?

As far as "Visual Indicators, and Posture"...

Avoid any Great White that want's to show you it's tonsils... :hai: (Hee!... Hee!...)

Have a great day!

I don't know what are your chances to meet a Great White, but if you do, this is how it may look like:
http://www.sharkattacks.com/bites.htm !!Warning!! The photos are not vegetarian, if you know what I mean... Not for those who are heart-fainted.

That is by far the most gruesome series of photographs I have ever seen, way worse even than the stuff out of my EMT manual. I'm not sure whether or not to bookmark it or write a protest letter to the webmaster.
Sites like this can very easily be manipulated by the public to foster anti-shark sentiment, and I don't blame them. YUK!!

And don't forget to make sure who is the real victim in the Shark vs. Man story:

Hahaha...those pictures are too funny! Don't believe everything you see! A bunch of those pictures are obvious fakes. However, if you were attacked by a shark, it is possible to have life threatening injuries, however, as most people know: 1) the likeliness of SEEING a shark (any type) is very low; 2) the likeliness of SEEING a GW is even lower; 3) the likeliness of being attacked (unprovoked) is even less likely adn 4) the likeliness of that attack coming from a GW, well, my math is pretty lowsy but the chances are slim to none. Having had the chance to work in an Emergency Departement and seeing some of the injuries that come in, I'd be more worried about getting into a car or a motorcycle accident (those are nasty) than getting bit by a GW. BTW, if a GW decides to attack you, you won't see it coming!

before seeing those pix, I was thinking about having a steak for lunch, but I think that I'll stick to noodles today. WOW your right I was an EMT II for a while and I never saw that kind of trauma anywhere!
Someone once told me to always wear black Wetsuits, so the shark will think you only whale poop! :54:

No lunch for me today...lost my appetite! Nasty!
