I just don't log dives
I am looking for a source for Whiskers for my Extra Force Fins.
I had one break today; I don't even know when it happened or how! I noticed it during the SI between dives.
Weird.
Now I'm trying to locate a replacement, but I'm not having any luck!
Can anyone help?
Michael

I had a whisker break on my Extra Force. I was able to find a replacement, but I don't have the screw for it. Can you tell me the length and thread pattern. I suspect that it is 8/32.
I can purchase replacement screws from any hardware store if I know the size.
Thanks

Oh, I and I tried writing Force Fin, but my message won't go through! It happens sometimes since we are posting from overseas.

1 - Take a screw out of your other fin.
2 - Take the screw and head to the hardware store.
3 - Buy one that matches. In fact, they're cheap. So buy several.

Yeah, I didn't want to do that.
1. Don't have locktite.
2. I am in Europe and they have this pesky little thing called a metric system! I.e., they ain't got no screws at the local store!

Those are probably just AWFUL calipers, they're the cheapest money can buy. They should be good enough for such coarse measurements I would think.

Use one of these to measure the length and width of the screw, as well as the threads. Sounds like it would be difficult but it's actually pretty easy. The one time I had to identify a screw using my calipers I got it right on the first try.

...or maybe @Bob Evans can help you.

I'm a Fish!
Working on making whiskers again. No matter how I cut it, going to be expensive. The plant that was making them for me left for The Peoples Republic of China, and we did not follow down that road. So looking at 3-d printing here in Ventura, keep you all posted.. The Whiskers you all like was shaped by my mentor Bob Kirby. Robert Kirby It's my idea and Patented, but Bob hand shaped the Force Fin Whiskers and helped machine the geared plate...do I have storyies to tell Why Force Fins Are Made In U.S.A. – Force Fin A experimental design made in late 1990's.

You missed a very valuable point. I don't have a screw in hand to measure it with! I could tell what size it is IF I HAD ONE IN HAND!

I could just look at it and tell you the size. I have a couple of sets of calipers, no sweat there.

I was just hoping that someone would know.
Bob is the genius behind the design and workings. I seriously doubt if he remembers the bolt size for the whiskers! Maybe?

I can take the other whisker off, but just don't want to. I have to go buy locktite, etc. No a big deal, but if the info is there in someone's head, that would be easier!

3-d printing might do it. Looking forward to seeing them. I wonder if you could get a pre-order so that you would know how many to run beforehand.

Mike, might have a good answer. My friends at Kirby-Morgn Diving hooked me up with a USA 3-D experts. Hopefully this week will get the process rolling. Working on new blog about how the Whiskers came about..be safe and thanks for your support. God Bless. Engineers – Force Fin
