I dive south Florida. Looking to get a better single tank wing. I currently dive a 3mm full suit. SS backplate with STA. I currently dive an aluminum 100 (don't judge me it was free...). I don't foresee diving anything larger than a LP 108. (If I need more gas I'll dive doubles...)The wings I can get for a great price are the halcyon 36#, HOG 36#, or HOG 23#. I can get either for about $200... Let me know which you would recommend.

30-32 is usually a good single tank wing that wil cover you through a wide range of exposure protection. The 23 might work but you could be limited downstream and the smaller size will not be of significant benefit.

Halcyon, is it an Eclipse Wing? If yes, they come in a 30lbs & 40lbs so if you are getting it for that price, I would recommend the 30lbs Halcyon Eclipse Wing.

I am not familiar with a Halcyon 36 lb wing. I agree with others, the 23# may be a little on the lean side. If I had a chance to get a good 30# wing for $200, I would go for it. I have a 30# Halcyon that I really like for single (steel) cylinders.

If you go to a steel tank with your rig, you will almost surely end up overweighted by about 6 pounds. I really like my 18 lb wing and ultralight BP (cloth), especially for travel. It will do the job just fine even if I go to my 5mm jumpsuit. I usually dive tropical water with no neoprene. If you end up as overweighted as I suspect, you may need the larger wing. If there is not a noticeable size/ profile/weight difference, then the larger wing might be better. But my preference would be the lighter wing with a lighter plate and no STA in warmer water.

You'd have to look at the wings and see what's up with those weird lift numbers. Usually you see 30lb wings or smaller for single tank use, 40+ for doubles, at least that's what I typically see. There's no real consistency in the accuracy of published lift ratings IMO.

Halcyon wings are expensive, if the $200 halcyon is a current model made for single tanks and is in good shape, it's a great deal.

I've bought new dive rite travel wings and oxycheq mach V wings for not much more than $200 from an excellent place in north florida that specializes in cave diving adventures (hint....) so check there and actually ask what them for their best price, you might be surprised.

I ended up getting the 36# halcyon.

They used to make the Pioneer in 36#, no longer available (new) so I guess the OP got a used one

Ya it is used but barely. Looks brand new

Enjoy. Just be careful how you pack it as they are a single-layer wing and more prone to pinch flats than double layer (separate cover/bladder) wings
