Hi all

Going to Nuwieba end of next week, I currently have 5mm Oceanic Shadow (full & Shortie)... i've read some advice on Red Sea gear, including what to take. Most people suggest full wet suits to help avoid getting scrapes etc. But will my 5mm full be too warm. Don't really want to have to buy another 3mm full..

Any advice appreciated

Dirk :06:

PS not really diving below 18m, OW only..

HI,
i was in dahab last christmas with the same suit. both ethe full and shorty were needed (although some people were only wearing 3mm shorties?!?!?). the water temp was generally low 20s. as for july i dont know how different it will be but i suggest take both pieces and if your too hot just wear the steamer and not the shorty.

If you not going below 18m you may be a bit warm in the 5mm????

On another note are you the pilot of a acrobatic plane flying over Greenhithe a couple of weeks ago :11:

Who do you dive with in the UK???

Thanks for the info.. think i might just take both to be sure...

No.. wasn't me over Greenhithe, usuall practise south of Ashford (less people to disturb), and above 3000ft incase it's all goes a bit wrong :eyebrow:

Diving at the moment with either Maidstone Scuba, or Dive Machine... you??

Used a 5mm full suit and hood the start of march. March 7th when we flew out to Sharm Got a bit cool after an hour in the water but nothing to bad. I also tend to get cold pretty quickly but managed to be fairly comfortable. Water temp was about 22 degrees i think.

I have lived in the Middle East for a long time (i guess my blood is thin now from the warm climate) and I usually like a little more wetsuit then the average visitor. Last week I dove with a full 3mm suit and a hooded vest. I was comfortable except on the 4th dive of the day when things got a bit chilly. Expect water temps in the low 80s and air temps during the day of 100. The wind can be a big factor in the Red Sea. Have a good time, I love Red Sea diving

If you'll be doing couple of dives a day or will be going deeper (can happen in Egypt even with an OW), you may want to wear both parts of your suit.
It actually will depend on how easy you get cold ;)

I get cold under water very easy but still in August at the depth of 30 meters I was unzipping my 5mm wet suit to....get cold a bit because it was much too warm. Water temp is 28 - 30 centigrades.
A year before - also in August - I was using 3mm and it was OK.
Hood is not needed at all at this time of year!!!!!
