Hi folks, just joined the board so this is my first question, so....

I just got a neoprene mask strap, great purchase, very comfy, great fit. But i have a handful of various snorkel keepers and none of them keep the snorkel still. Slapping about everywhere - very irritating.

I know alot of people don't use a snorkel but i'm starting my PADI rescue diver course so i have to wear it.

So, anyone have a neoprene strap and have a secure keeper - which one do you use?

thanks in advance!

No, you have to have one with you and available for use.

It will clip onto your mask strap, or do what I do- just run the tube under the strap when I need it.

Yep - Just tuck the snorkel under your mask strap, no keeper needed. And as soon as you're done with your class, donate the snorkel to some kid in the neighborhood.

kinda :offtopic:, but...
One other thing about RD course- it's a lot easier to tow a diver by pulling a nylon strap out of your pocket and hauling him with that.

A four foot long piece of 3/4" nylon strap (nothing real heavy)- loop it over his tank nipple and have a loop on your end. A whole lot easier than doing the horizontal aqua rhumba.

No you don't. Shove it in a pocket and stuff it up the mask strap for the few bits that need it (im not sure there ARE any parts that need it)

I think a pocket makes a great snorkle keeper.

Its OK but reduces space for actual useful items. I find the house cupboard is a more secure and space efficient choice.

Cheers for the info guys. I found that a hair band (effectively a piece of bungee) doubled under the mask strap and the snorkel threaded through does the job reasonably well, it'll have to do at any rate. It's only when i'm not wearing a hood the snorkel sits right on my effin ear, rather uncomfortable. Pocket doesn't work for me, i've all me other stuff in there. Pockets on my bc aren't the largest.

I didn't realise you didn't have to wear it on your mask though which is good to know. Not sure my PADI instructor is gonna buy that though. We'll see....

Thanks again folks!

When we snorkeled this year, I found a large rubberband that was used to tie broccoli bundles together at the groceries worked perfectly. Just the right size and friction needed to hold the tube to the mask strap, and not distorting it enough to be uncomfortable.
