Which Mach V Did I Get?!

Ok, so I got my mach v from ST yesterday - very happy.

BUT! The wing I ordered from ST was the mach V sig series - one that does not have the cam strap slots and requires an STA. So I bought an STA to go with it to (oxycheq light one piece).

When I got the wing it looked slightly different - narrower and had the cam strap slots in the center panel. Also there are 5 grommets in the center panel - the sig series on the ST site looks like it only has 4 grommets. So does this mean that I got the newer mach V that does not require an STA? the cam strap slots (at least thats what I think they are) on the wing and my plate match up so it looks like I can use this wing without an STA. Has anyone used this wing w/o an STA? If so, what was the tank stability & trim like?

Another question I have is that the STA does not fit the wing 100% - i.e. you sort of have to streth the center panel a bit to fit the STA on - is this normal?

And finally, it looks like I have to drill/enlarge one of the holes on my OMS plate to bolt the STA on... the hole configuration that I need does not mach the plate holes 100%. Is it ok to drill the plate? It wont err..... "damage" it in any way?? :blinking:

If you ordered sig series and got razor you should be worried about more than the STA/number of grommets. Does your wing have an inner bladder or not? That is kind of like the crucial difference to start with to make the first call if you got totally wrong product.
Don't go punching/stretching anything before you know what you got and if you want to keep it.

Not sure about the inner bladder - will check tonight.

Why should I be worried? Is there such a huge difference between sig and razor? I thought the razor was better given that it is newer?

I dont care if I got the wrong product as long as it is better than the sig series, which I thought I ordered.

The Razor is not better because it is newer.The Razor has no inner bladder. It will pack smaller than the Sig Series. The Sig Series would be considered a tad more durable.

Is the word Oxycheq stitched on the sides of the wing? Does it have a zipper that allows access to an inner bladder?

Why do you feel the need to drill your plate? I have two OMS plates that I use with Oxycheq wings all the time. No modification necessary.

Take some pictures and show us what you have and where you are having trouble before you modify anything!

It does have the words Oxycheq in black letters stitched down the side. I noticed on the ST site that the Sig mach v has Oxycheq in yellow letters.

* The sta bolt is going through the top grommet of the wing and through the top hole in the plate.

* the bottom sta bolt is going through the "second from bottom" grommet in the wing and the "adjustable" bolt slot in the plate.

* between the STA, the wing and the plate, I have to apply considerable force to try and force the bolt through all three holes. even then I haven't been able to do it.

* I am putting the sta directly on top of the center panel of the wing. Should the sta go between the wing and the plate perhaps?

Plate, wing, STA. Get your wing wet, nylon stretches when wet. Assemble it in your bathtub or shower if you have to.

You have the Sig Series. Sometimes the letters are in yellow and sometimes they are in black.

Here's what I'm trying to do with regards to the STA:

That is the correct assembly order. Oxycheq STAs have shorter bolts than some other brands. Grab some longer bolts if necessary.

Definitely not. You are doing it right.

Your OMS plate should have 3 holes in the upper part of the plate. I'd start with the middle one. Move the STA up or down a hole to move the tank up or down relative to the plate later as you are fine tuning your trim.

Yes, I thought of doing that, BUT - my harness covers the middle hole of the OMS plate. The grommet in the harness is dead on the bottom hole in the plate, hence the upper section of the harness covers the middle hole, thus leaving only the top hole available to secure the sta.

is there any way I can move the harness or thread it differently to expose the middle hole? I have the DR deluxe harness btw.

Use a soldering iron and burn a hole in the webbing that covers the middle hole.
