Looking at a map here of Utila....I will need to make reservations (accomodations) soon because the week I'll be there is a popular one.

I do no know which dive shop I'll be using, just need one that is calm, patient, and less party-ish.

My BIG concern, since I have to book lodging in advance, is which end of town--west or east--is the quietest, away from noisy, late-night bars. Or, is there a particular area (within walking distance of the center) that is more tranquil?

Thanks for any help!

During one of my adventures in Utila I stayed in the Blue Bayou Studio Bodega Apartment found on the following website... 10 minute walk down the coast line away from town.

Blue Bayou Beach Houses | Utila Vacation Rental Properties & Management | DestinationUtila.com

Generally speaking I found Utila town noisy where ever you go, it is quite common for people to put stereo speakers outside their houses and play really loud and bad music, the bars play good stuff.

I dived with this shop Captain Morgan's Dive Centre - Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras Home as they have sleeping accomodations on the Cays, quiet and without insects. I would recommend staying at hotel Kayla 2, Kayla 1 is the main building and a little too busy for my liking.

K-

I agree that Blue Bayou is probably a bit quieter than some of your other options. You don't mention your budget which would help folks, including me, give you an idea of your options.

Thanks.

Hey, Kimanjo....to the WEST.Try the Margaritaville Hotel. It is across the street from the Driftwood Cafe & bar. Closes at 10PM. They have cabins on beach, rooms and cabins on lagoon side. Family owned. Just a few bocks walk from Bay Islands College of Diving and Ecomarine/Gunters dive shop. Speak with Jungle Jim at BICD or Hans at Ecomarine. It gets quiet earlier on the west end. Talk to both operations before you decide which op on Utila you decide to dive with. They are all good operations but instructors and DM's change frequently.

My OPTIMAL budget is this:

$20 night for a/c'd single room
$40 night for a/c'd big room with 2 twin beds
$50 night for 2 rooms (say, an apt with an alcove and extra bed, or 2 small connecting rooms) that can accomodate 3 singles

A/C is not a must since I live in Flroida now and I can handle the heat,,,pretty much. But I think Utila in July may be really hot, AND the a/c is good way to keep away the biting bugs....however, if there is a decent, less expensive place that has mosquito netting and fans only, I'm okay with that, I did that in the Amazon and it works fine.
