I generally keep my beam real tight as well, but when I was at Ginnie this past weekend, we found that spreading the beam out really lit up the cavern we were in. :D

anyone here use the 24 watt HID? seems like not many people are using it...
Is the light significantly brighter than the 21 watt? The Salva one is $1200, which is not that much different than the 21 watt($1025) consider that you already spent 1000+ on it. :D Also, the addditional $175 gives you a bigger battery and brighter light, should I also consider it or 21 watt is more than enough already?

Halcyon...proteous 3. 10w HID>already with the goodman handle....(unlike others) HID...two hour burn time. VERY BRIGHT. New i think is about $600.00. Cool part is, you can go to specail battery places and have them make you a new battery, one that last longer for like 90 bucks, even that nickle lithium stuff. Just incase you decided to do multiple long dives.

Im not a photogropher but I have heard that Halogen works best for it then HID...is this true ?

I've had a Halcyon HID for just a bit over a year now, and I love it. I've dived with people with the Salvo light and really like the hotter color temperature of Halcyon's HID.

Plus, no one beats Halcyon's customer service with these lights and Corey Smith's dedication!

I went to DEMA with the intent of bying a divelight that fit my needs, not what LDS had in stock, looked at all of them, took two and a half days , ended up with a 75watt halogen (flamethrower) 27Ahr 12volt NiMH battery , 4hrs of burn time and a 50watt heater fore my drysute ,no need to charge on boat just what till i get home. www.patcoinc.com

How much was the heater? What is the process on doning it? Where does the wire go throught your drysuit (I assume you punch a hole like I did for my pee valve?

I have 2 posts (one top one bottem) my light is one the heater the auther one, you can get a splitter and run them both on one post. the wires pass through the sute like a pee valve (pee valve gooood.) I put it on my left chest, passes under my left . the heating element, a 12" x 8" flexible silicone rubber pad, just.08" thick. it has a felt sock that it fits into. you velcrow that to your undergarment in the small of your back over your kidneys, I have a 50 watt, you can just barly keep an unprotected hand on it by itslelf .

I know there are people on the board using the twist-focus (eg, Dive-Rite, Salvo) type and some use the sliding focus type (Halcyon, Salvo) of HID. Could anyone say anything about the pros and cons of each type? What I know so far is the sliding type is larger and the twist-focus type, Is there any thing else that really makes them different than each other?

Thanks in advance

I personally use the OMS Phantom 10w HID. Its is small and compact. Fix focus. But never really needed to widen or sharp focus the beam. I have it side mounted to my Dive Rite, and it feels right at home (most of the time). I myself haven't used it in situation such as wreck or cave.
