BabyDuck:
and that's pretty much my answer - which hid light will i buy? the one my buddy is selling to go up to an 18 or 21! that's my strategy on most purchases, wait for my buddies to upgrade!

Like you did with my wing!

Just to give you a heads up, I have been eyeballing 18watters lately...

remember how much you love me when it's time to sell the old one, jason!:10:

Nic160:
Anybody know anything about sartek ?

Yes,I had the Sartek, I bought it at ginnie spring's, here in FL, and liked it. I didn't use it much at the time, But if I remember I liked it alot.. It did have a focasable light head, but I can tell you, my friend had the Dive-Rite slimline 10 watt HID, and we compared the two next to each other, and the Dive-Rite put out a nicer beam, hottar and tighter, But the Dive -Rite light head had a open refractor, where the Sartek is enclosed the light head, sorrta like the Dive-Rite's MR-11 . I just sold my Dive-Rite here on the board as well, moving upto a 21 watt

thanks so much for all the input
I have pretty much set my mind on the Salvo, either the 21 watt or the 24 watt.
I am wondering how the focasable light head perform on video or even photography? If you turn the light head to its widest angle will it be good for underwater video? i
s the light too strong for still photo shooting?

thanks in advance

I have the 21W Salvo with an EKPP reflector. Set wide out, I doubt that the angle would be wide enough for video, and the beam pattern appears to a bit donut like. But I always have the beam as tight as possible.

Does it mean that divers are not often to play with the focasable feature while they are diving? I have no idea what the applications of the focasable feature are except in the cave. could anyone lists some examples?

I am thinking to get the Salvo 21w now but don't know if i should go for the focasable head or not. There is ONLY a 100 dollar difference :) ($925 vs $1025). I always hear: the cheap purchas is the one that you don't need to buy the same thing again. which one would you guys think is the best value and will last me a long time with all different kinds of dives? (again, i am not a extreame, push to the edge kind of wreck diver)

This will the most expansive single diving item I will get, got to be very, very sure, otherswise i would be super regret.
Thanks in advance

If the non-focusable beam is set tight (6 deg or so) then personally I don't see the point of a focusable beam then, as I rarely change the angle for any reason. I use it on night dives, day dives, whenever. Great for signalling, which is one of my primary uses.

I keep my Salvo 21w tightly focuses most of the time. But last Tuesday we dived the "Salmon Spawn" - hundreds of salmon spawning at depths from 10' to 60'. When coming up on a group or school of the guys, it was great to be able to widen up the beam and light up a bunch of them at once.

I frequently do a little swim-through a sunken barge here in the local pond. It's great to open up the beam in those tight quarters and light the interior.

That's a good point Rick, never thought about that. I've widened the beam a few times, but with the poor viz we generally get around here, more often than not, it just creates a big haze from the reflection back. Kind of like putting the high beams on in your car in heavy fog.
