I was hoping to hear opinions about what DSMB you'd suggest for OW diving in New England (MA). This would be for unexpected cases of missing an ascent line and needing to freely ascend while signaling the dive boat, and for deco hangs (in the future!). I already have a 100' finger spool and 200' reel. What models and what sizes? I obviously need to be able to shoot it from depth (filled by means of second stage), therefore need an OPV, and would like something that can be seen from distance! For any suggestions, please let me know *why*.

Second part of this thread, how do you store your DSMB(s) and lift bag(s)? Would something like the OMS compartment EMS system (http://www.omsdive.com/bc_access.html; on right) be a good choice? If not, what would you suggest? I don't want to store all of these in my pockets, so please, what else do you suggest?

Thank you.

I have a couple of Carter 9' SMBs (1 red, 1 yellow) that I like quite a bit.

The best feature is that there's an extra inflator valve on the side that you can blow into (and also fits the cone on a Dive-Alert), in case you find that your tube is a llittle flaccid on the surface. 8-)

As for storage, I'm all ears (or eyes as the case may be). They're too big to fit in my pockets, and aren't exactly streamlined when clipped off to my BC. Any suggestions are appreciated.

The 9 foot OMS bag can definitely been seen above the waves. I've used them before and they're nice. I don't see a downside to it. I use the Dive Rite 125 foot spool and like the high viz line which isn't prone to snag. The OMS 150 foot spool has too much line for the spool size. I had to remove at least 20 feet of line in order to be able to clip off the double-ender. I use a Dive Rite mesh bag for my SMB (which is also a Dive Rite). It stays neatly tucked away bolted in my BP when not in use.
