Rubba Chicken...

there is no set weight for a back plate and wings. I have them from my SS FredT BP that is at least 7 lbs to a lighter version by DeepSeaSupply at about 5 to my Kydex/SS BP (Also by www.DeepSeaSupply.com ) that weighs in at about a pound. If you do a search you will find a TON of info about these types of BCs.

Most Satandard SS BP will weight around 6# depending on the manufacturer.

As Net Doc pointed, there are specially made BPs to acomodate about every need.

And if you need more, you can stack them to achieve the desired weight, that's versatility !!!

hi there
sorry to crash this thread, any idea how heavy a back plate and wings would be, i'm also thinking of a new BCD, it's weight will influence my choice

hmmm... well, Dive Rite aluminum plates are usually about 2 lbs (is this right? i'm going on memory) and steel ones are usually
6 lbs.

add to that the weight of the wings and harness, and you're
probably adding another 2-4 pounds, depending mostly on
what size wings you use.

so... roughly, you can go up from about 4 lbs for the smaller
bp/wings convo

as i said, this is a rough answer

i would say start with a balance or black diamond, the trend i percieve here on the board is that the back plate/harness and wing setup is where you end up after years of diving.People like to say they wish they started with bp/wings,after they have reached a pinnacle point in diving, but just about everybody started with the standard BC.

I would go with the Zeagle Ranger. You should get the LTD as it is much more adjustable. The older Rangers were like this.
