My second question is; do they have an external adjustment knob? My third question is: Would be be better for me to purchase Scubapro, instead (not too thrilled at the idea of paying a markup over MSRP, though).

Yes, the Atomic has an external adjustment for cracking pressure. They don't have an external venturi assist knob, but that's because the adjustment is handled automatically in the Atomic (vs manual in the ScubaPro).

I should have been a nurse instead

:11: ouch, don't do it

Seriously you'll love the atomics. I actually picked mine up used (and had them checked of course) and saved a bunch up front. Between me and gf, we have 6 firsts and 6 seconds and they all breathe great. Now ScubaToys get $50 bucks per set from me every 2 years for the service.

First stage swivel, not second stage :D

:D

I've done backmount and sidemount with and without first stage swivel and it makes no difference at all. Once you find where you want the hoses, you'll keep them there.

The second stage (the "other first stage" ) swivel can be very useful for sidemount, but not for backmount IMO.
