also, my japanese friend told me to get a CMAS kesa PADI... what are your thoughts on this?

thanks!

I've never taken a CMAS class.

If CMAS open water is taught to its required standards. (please see:http://www.cmasamericas.com/Assets/CA Standards and Policies.pdf). I believe it will be harder to qualify than getting a local open water certification in NAUI.

To be certified to dive up to sixty (60) feet or a one star diver in CMAS; you will be required to:

1. swim 207 meters non-stop.
2. tread water for ten (10) minutes
3. 15 meter breath hold swim, no pushing off.
4. 412 meter snorkel swim
5. rescue unconscious diver from 3 meters.
6. list goes on.....

I only did something close to this in NAUI in my advanced class, nine years ago.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any active local CMAS instructors. But if you do take it, and pass, I'll dive with you anytime... no questions asked. :14:

All of us have seen bad divers from all the agencies and we have seen some good ones. Lets look at the indiviaul diver and their particular instructor rather than passing the fault of the instructor to at the agency.

Just make sure you choose and instructor that takes his job serioulsly.

Good luck!!

Mr. Gordon that is because you had an excelent instructor and friend in your NAUI Open Water course, but you and me know that when travel down south of the Philippines our co-mates NAUI instructor, fail to meet Dennis standards.

We do have 2 CMAS Instructors in Manila, Dick Reyes and a CMAS Course Director.
