Ok during the fall everybody talked about how the vis would get better. Sunday I did my very brief dive in the worst vis I've bothered to dive in here. Apparently the vis has been rotten here in RI for almost 3 weeks. Why is this? Where is the elusive clear winter water I keep hearing about? Do I have to drive up to MA for it? :yuck:

In general, for shore diving:

East (or NE) winds = very bad viz, West winds = very good viz.

The once a season "best viz ever" situation is a huge NE blow (all the crap is thrown on the beach) followed by a few days of the wind screaming West and then a day of very light west wind, that's when you will see 50'+ vis off the shore.

I hear that the best vis is out at the wreck dives.....:D

Watch it buster!
Man the wind is ripping out on the bay right now. The little beach at Potter's Cove is getting POUNDED!

well the weather has ben crappy....
and yeah the offshore sites (wrecks) provide better viz. :)
i had 6' in new london yesterday

we are NOT having the wreck discussion again *scowl*

it was just a example of varying viz in the area..

hey word is all the concrete from the old jamestown bridge is gonna be made into a reef...
