My advice is to save the cummerbund for those black-tie occasions and buy a BC that doesn't have that incredibly stupid design feature.

I would wrap it around my head and pose as a Polynesian big-wig.

I added a crotch strap to my jacket BC and it made a remarkable difference in the way the BC functions.

since crotch strap has the potential of decapitating my jewels...maybe I can sew a pair of underwear onto the BC and wear that as a full supportive crotch strap.

I guess all those DIR divers are overcompensating for something.....

With the harness, you still have to determine where to wear the webbing, if it goes right through the middle of one's extraordinary built 1 pack, it will still ride up, no? especially when floating on the surface with the BC inflated. Maybe if the 6pack is filled with fat, the person might have a tendency to float, but if one is all muscles and/or is wearing a weight belt, then the person is being pulled downward, hence it wanting to ride upward. Tightening it tight enough to prevent it riding up will result in the straps digging in and causing discomfort.
Your last sentence is simply incorrect. There is no need to tighten the straps enough to cause "digging in and discomfort". As I said, I am one of those people that sink, even with a wetsuit on, and I have never had to tighten my straps enough for any kind of discomfort in order to prevent my harness/wing from riding up.

If one is on the surface with a fully loaded weight belt and the BC is fully inflated, all that weight is going to pull you down. Not sure how the harness is going to prevent you from going down unless you wear the straps below the gut.

You simply need to be fitted with a Hog harness and try it out. Just take in faith that those of use who dive the system know how it feels in the water. Trust us, it works. Without the crotch strap, it doesn't. That's what you're missing.

There is no crushing of your bits and pieces, unless you're wearing board shorts w/ a 1in crotch strap, dropping from the deck 5 ft above water with your legs wide open.
Even then it's not really crushing, it's something far worse and it's all the water's fault, not the crotch strap itself. This is why 2in is the way to go, it's just like wearing underwear, you don't feel it; even on the 5ft drops. And once again, close your legs on those drops.

I'm considering removing the cumberbund on my bc and just using the buckles & a 2" crotch strap and i wear a 3 mil normally. The bc is the hollis HD100 and says the cumberbund is removable. Constructive comments? ;)

If the straps sit firmly on your gut then go for it. If not then you'll find more stability with the cumberbun.
With a crotch strap added it will be the same either way, more or less; but probably easier gearing up without the cumberbun.
