It was kind of more a rhetorical question and a gripe. There's also the whole bigger picture of having the country appear to be financially stable during a crisis and to not appear vulnerable to potential enemies, and of course the NYSE was open... yada yada yada...

(I wonder how traders got their MBF orders entered for options expiry since they would have had to do that last night - no power. I guess calling the TSE this morning would have been there only course of action.)

BTW - I hear the slots at Woodbine Racetrack are running. Must not deprive the gambling addicts.

Go figure.

I can understand that. There's more important things in life. Beyond your control and mine, the powers that be dictate how things should run.....

As for the MBF orders, probably put in this morning before market open, either that or some changed to MOC on the close. Never dealt much with Toronto on these, as liquidity scares me a bit.

Now my main worry is that power still stays on so my drinks keep nice and chilled.... :)

I should have been advised of changes to the MOC or additional OE sessions for MBF orders since that affects my work but really who cares now!! The mkt is closed! (Well except for the LSTS.)

Still no power at my house.

Yes, must consume all alcohol in the fridge so none goes bad!! :D Boss just handed out the last of the brewskies here. She doesn't want anyone who didn't go in to work to get any!!

Yo!

I rather liked this black out event, for the first time my city neighbors came out of there lairs and spoke to us after 5 years. I had no TV so I had to read a book. I checked out the stars and went for an evening walk.

I was at dolphinos with Drownedrat picking up bottles thought it was just someone overloading a circuit down the street happens all the time with peoples airconditioners.then we learned it was more serious. .. did a dive in morrisburg and came up and saw the power was back on. well as soon as we turned on the radio we learned the truth.

...who needs electricity to go diving anyway :)

At work in ICU of our hospital. No TV's, no AV, no elevators until emergency generators came on.

We had a patient on a respirator ventilator and that was looking kinda scary for awhile....

It was hot, dark and made us appreciate what we often take for granted every day!

When the power went out yesterday I was working away on my laptop computer...thank god for battery back-up!

Spent most of today at my office at City Hall until the Mayor decided that most everyone should go home. So packed up my stuff and headed out the the grocery and beer store and the gas station to fill up. Had a nice bbq for supper tonight with some neighbours on the block whom with had a block party last night.

As of now, almost everyone on the block has the A/C going and some are watering their lawns and gardens. Go figure eh!
:D

Yo!

Go figure is correct, we live in a selfish world. I Heard on CNN this evening that if we don't start to clean up our act with water pollution 60% of the worlds coral reefs will be gone with in 30 years. How will man be able to ajust his greed of nature and ignorance to fix this, if we can't get him to turn off his air conditioner and stop wasting water on the lawn in times of national emergencies and serious concerns.

I'm now looking into solar and wind alternate energy, may take a while but figure it's worth it. Our farm was hit hard in the ice storm and with the black out I was making trips to the creek to water horses...that are too dumb to go there themselves.

I was sitting at work writing an email to a Scubaboard member! LOL We had windows in our suite so I wound up working for another half hour. Gotta love the automotive business. NOT!

Took a couple hours to get home and I was very thankful given I intended to fill the gas tank on the way home. & thus I was stuck at home for the long run.

My condo stayed nice and cool for the most part. Basement didn't flood with the storms and lack of pumps. I cross-stitched a present for my nephew-to-be's christening. 4 months ahead of time!LOL And then I worked on a Christmas stocking for another nephew that is a year late.

Power came on about 9:30pm Friday night. My refridgerator and freezer have never looked so clean! And I'm very thankful that I"m in charge of my SCUBA club's buddy line program. (Local practice / fun dives) I had lots of extra goodies and drinks that I wouldn't normally have. And I had to eat the hotdogs before they went bad, right?

All in all an interesting experience. It will be nice when I don't have to boil the water before drinking / cooking anymore. & can run the dishwasher, wash some clothes and turn on the air!
