Martha,
Yes, I understand that with Cristi I can stay just about everywhere - except Villa Aldora since you can only stay there if you dive with them. Since they are among out top choice for dive op, and it seems to be a nice place to stay we are leaning that way. If we dove with Cristi we could/would stay at either Park Royal (if we were to go with the All Inclusive relax in the pool drinking vacation option) or at Caribe Blue (if we went with the more budget dive resort option). Since all three of these somewhat different vacation options have their appeal I just cant decide which to do... but I am an Aries after all.

Not trying to talk you out of Park Royal, I hear it's a great place. But... you are not really on the water, you are across the street which isn't such a big deal but your view most of the day will be of the cruise ships. They literally park right out front.

Since mstevens brought it up, my wife and I used to exclusively stay at The Presidente which arguably had the best snorkeling right off of their beach. Have not stayed there post-wilma/post remodeling so i can't say how all that fared. We don't stay there anymore because our priorities have shifted to scuba diving all day, all night. It's a fabulous place and if you can afford it your wife will love you forever. It is right next to the marina so any dive op will pick you up there... but I still say you should stick w/ Caribe Blu & Christi :crafty:

Caribe Blu has rendez-blu and a nice new waterfront restaurant just to the north. Perfect for breakfast and a few quick lunches. Go into town for a few lunches and all your dinners, waaay to many great places. Don't go AI!!!!

Good luck picking and I hope I haven't confused the issue even more.

What place is that? When I was there last, they were building something near the lighthouse. Is that where it is?

Yes, between Caribe Blu and the Lighthouse, literally a few steps past the boat launch. It had just opened when we were there in October and the menu was very limited. Chips, Guacamole, Ceviche and Shrimp & Fish Tacos were all they had. The tacos were almost as good as Camillo's which means they were darn tasty! Unfortunately they didn't have any of the chipotle sauce like they have at Camillo's.

It's a nice open air restaurant so you get a really nice view of the water, I believe there was an upper floor too but we didn't check that out. We ended up eating there towards the end of the trip which was unfortunate... if we had known it was so good we would have eaten there more as it's a very short walk.

The snorkeling around the Presidente hasn't really recovered much yet, but was better to the south of it than anywhere between the International Pier / Park Royal area and Hotel Cozumel. I searched both areas in Sept & the results are in my on line albums listed earlier in this message. The new buildings right beside Playa Caletita (where the lighthouse is located) opened in Oct from what I understand but I don't know what each one provides. There is a lot of new construction going on all the way between the pier and the lighthouse & keeping up to date is getting hard to do.

My wife and I are hoping to go to Cozumel at the end of the month. We had our eye on Caribe Blu, but they may not have availability for the dates we are looking at. Can anyone suggest another place that is within walking distance to town and has decent snorkeling? We plan to dive, but would like to hang out by the beach/pool some too and decent snorkeling would be nice. Not looking for AI.
Thanks!
