RoatanMan:Relying on any DM for help/supervision is really outside the scope of their duties to a large degree. Sure, they'll help if they see something odd, but their duty is to find and point out all the cool stuff that the South side of Roatan has to offer.
As far as i am concerned my primary duty when i am divemastering is not to point out cool stuff it is the safety of my divers, that means assisting them with equipment setup so as to avoid any equipment related problems in the water, and ensuring people stay within the no decompressionj limits and regularly check their air. Sure pointing stuff out is nice, but safety comes first.
My advice is to choose a dive shop that uses instructors to lead their dives. Instructors are well practised as dealing with students in the water and that added watchfulness becomes second nature regardless of whether or not the divers are students or certified.
