Where to stay for convenient shore diving near Kahuku?

I will be going to Hawaii this July with my girlfriend to visit her father's family who live in Kahuku. Her father grew up and went to highschool in Kahuku but he isn't a diver and doesn't go back very often. Can anyone recommend where to stay for easy access to shore diving? Walking distance would be great. When searching VRBO most of the places popping up are in Turtle Bay and Sunset Beach.

We are also planning to fit in several charters. Any diving recommendations for O'ahu in general would also be greatly appreciated.

You can get some boat dives from Haleiwa. Shore diving may be out depending on the swell/waves this time of year.
Check out Surf N Sea in Haleiwa...we have always enjoyed diving with them.
