So I have one of those duffel bag style dive bags. It does not have any extra pockets. Where does one store all the extra stuff or do they just let it float around the bag. Here are the things I am thinking about when I say extra stuff:

  • Dive knive/cutter
  • safety sausage
  • save a dive kit
  • flashlight
  • extra D rings
  • Dive tool
  • Dive planner
  • Compass
There are probably other things too, but that is a lot of junk just floating around the bag and if its loose it is easy to lose.

I use heavy duty zip lock plastic bags of various sizes for things that aren't in their own case. You can even put multiple smaller bags into a gallon (or larger) bag. I have a small LL Bean duffle bag that I use for all my odds and ends.

I organize my packing the same way when I travel, and it works well. You can see everything.

* my knife sheath is affixed to my webbing, so the knife stays with the BP/W
* DSMB and reel stay in a pocket
* save a dive in a watertight case in the bag for small stuff, in the truck for bigger stuff
* flashlight(s) in my reg bag
* not sure why to carry extra d rings, if you meant o rings, in the save a dive, also in my reg bag
* dive tool is in the save a dive
* if by dive planner you mean tables, they are in my log book binder and left in the truck once I verify my computer is working
* compass is in the reg bag

When taking a dive charter boat I keep my weights in a large mesh bag (unless already on the unit). Everything else just floats around in the hockey bag. Computer & watch in a plastic box (in the bag) to prevent damage.

•Dive knive/cutter - strapped to webbing on back inflate BCD
•safety sausage - rolled up and shoved in an empty spot
•save a dive kit - plastic box
•flashlight - inside booties
•extra D rings - If orings then inside save a dive box
•Dive tool - save a dive box
•Dive planner - none - use computer
•Compass - on console but it separate then I would use booty or foot pocket in a fin

Spare computer in mask case (spare mask) or fin pocket.
I sometimes grab an old tshirt for utility or camera work and can use it to wrap something.
Coffee mug with top used to store smaller items

I have a smaller draw-string mesh bag that I use. Got it at REI years ago. They come in several sizes. I keep my surface marker on my BC in a mesh pocket that hangs from the back plate. I do local diving and much of that stuff is kept on the boat. When I travel, I have a small backpack for the save-s-dive and first aid kit along with my towel and other stuff you need to take along.

In a perfect world it's all in a pile in the bag in the order I need to put it on. I hate handle additional containers or extra bags.

Results not typical.

Large stuff goes in the large duffle dive bag, much of it clipped to the harness. Small items go into a cheap zippered canvas and mesh toiletry bag I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
