Looking at re-locating. I would like to hear about the good points about the place you live. My life is changing for a lot of reasons and I would like to live it at it fullest, but.............oh, never mind, you know what I mean.

dear tracker,
my suggestion is very biased, but i'll give it a shot.
you should move to virginia.
she has the atlantic on the eastern shore.
she has beautiful mountains to the west.
there are several large cities spread out over the commonwealth.
you might feel comfortable living near one.
if the quiet life of the country interest you there are thousands of square miles of undeveloped property thru out virginia.
she has 4 very distinct seasons.
winters are sometimes very cold with a touch of snow.
spring is the best with the trees leafing out, baby animals running around. (domestic and wild) and flowers blooming
summers get very hot with humidity, except for the mountain areas.
and the fall is beautiful with her trees changing different colors.
she has lots of history and traditions that we are proud of.
we welcome visitors and folks like you who might live here.
virginia is half way between our brother divers in new england and those in the keys.
i could go on and on about this great part of our united states.
and virginia is for lovers.
regards,
smokey

Thanks for the reply. Funny how the first is about Virginia. That's where my family originated.

San Diego is nice, but the price of property is ridiculous. Too many cars, can't find parking close to the beach unless you get there at 6:00am.

Australias pretty cool too. Climate to suit everyone, freindly people, don't take our jokes to heart, it can cause animosity, loads of diving with great diversity, reef, wreck, cool climate, warm climate, muck diving, sharks diving, and the list goes on.

Sydney, Australia!! granted, it may be expensive to live near the city but its just so pretty, it captures your heart..always something going on as well..the great barrier reef is only a 3hr plane trip away and our beaches have some great dive spots too..doesnt get too cold or hot near the harbour either..i love my city, and i hope you find a place you love too!

Borger Texas. Right in the heart of the best diving in the world. Three to thirty hours in a jet plane in any direction and you are there! And the cost of living ( if you can call it living) is low.

Ever consider re-locating a bit farther away?

I live in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, where I must say, life is particularily wonderful! The people are tall and beautiful, they are curteous and there is a lot of water here!

It is definately cold water diving, but it is wonderful.

Have a look at www.expedia.com for an expats overview!

I lived in Virginia for 9 years. It was beautiful in summer, but I always felt like I was in exile. I'm from the West, and it was just too different, I guess. Almost like a foreign country. I didn't mind that so much, but I never got used to the mold. I had a lot of allergies when we lived in Virginia. They disappeared when we moved back to the West Coast.

When we had a chance to relocate anywhere we wanted to, we chose NE Washington. Beautiful scenery, very good housing values, friendly people, and great skiing. I haven't tried cold-water diving, but a lot of people around here enjoy it. We haven't regretted our decision to move out here.

We are considering leaving the Motherland (NJ) within a couple of years, and are thinking seriously about Southern California. We would totally miss things like Big Hair, the boardwalk of (insert your favorite gritty seaside town here), the pizza, baked goods, and Taylor ham, but we can always have (most of) those things shipped in if we get desperate. :05:
The real estate is outrageous, but it's adjacent to the best diving in the world (IMHO), and skiing is a mere couple of hours' drive. You can do both of my favorite things in one day if you are of a mind to. Also, the weather and the quality of life out there seems to suit us.
I hope that if we do go, that Dr. Bill will take me touring his underwater world, it is something I have been dying to do for ages now.
