Since I can't afford a cannister right now, I have a UK Cannon 100 that I'd like to know where the best place is to hang it and how to hang it. Also, should I use the lanyard that comes with it or not?
BTW - I use a BP/W setup.

Thanks

I've seen people just attach a bolt snap to it and hang it from the right chest D-ring.. I've also seen people hang them from their left hip D-ring. Both seem to work OK.

Before I got my can light, I just used the wrist strap and kept it on my left wrist all the time, and I just dropped it if I had to do something with my left hand. That worked OK too.

I put a bolt snap on mine and hang it from my un-DIR right hip D-ring; If I didn't have that, I'd probably hang it from the right chest D-ring.

Unsolicited tangent: I intensely dislike pistol grips. The only reason I got the LC over the C8 eLED is that for just a few bucks you can change the handle out for a lantern grip. Lantern is not only more comfortable, but you can (strong disclaimer: this is not secure, you may lose your light, etc.) hook the lantern handle through a waist strap for momentary storage.

The thing I don't like about big danglies on the right hip is the possibility for the long hose to get trapped on whatever it is... especially a big fat pistol grip light, that has the shape of an inverted T when hanging from a D-ring.

I'm assuming fran has a long hose but I have no idea. Right hip sounds like a fine idea if you don't dive with a 7' hose. It would even be OK with a 5' hose because a 5' hose doesn't go down past your waist strap.

Yeah, I hate pistol grips too. But they look cool in the dive shop don't they??

Yes, I futzed with that a few times before I decided it was OK. Even pure-DIR (at least, as most of the available videos show it) requires a manual unhooking of the last loop from the cannister/other hold-down.

In any case, most of the long hose is available before unhooking it from wherever it's hooked anyway; 90% of the time the light is in my hand; 100% of the time the hose didn't get hung up on the stowed light in drills; even when I tried to "trick" it into snagging, it self-unsnagged. Fair point in theory, though, and well worth raising.

I just did a night dive in my BP with a pistol light this week. Except for when I was putting my fins on, and had it clipped off to a hip D-ring, it was in my hand the whole time. If it isn't in your hand, you probably don't need it.

I actually had my ratcheting flag reel and light clipped together, and found that both were quite managable like that.

Thanks for the "how to" "where to"
Don't have a long hose yet . . . but I'm working on it. Still a new diver, still learning.

It could be tough to climb the boat ladder with a pistol grip light in my hand or dangling from it.

I have a female quick-disconnect on my chest D-ring and a male q-d on my light. It's actually enough room that I don't have to disconnect it during my night dives which saves it in the eventuality of dropping it. (My name is not Grace.) I don't use the lanyard.
My camera also has the male q-d but I keep the lanyard on that one in case I do disconnect. Many times I don't though.
Hope that make sense.

Get rid of the lanyard. Attach a bolt snap to it and hang it from the chest D-ring opposite where you have your computer. If you put it on the hip or on the same side as your computer then you'll probably have trouble reading your computer in the dark.

I did as you suggested, hung it on the left chest D-ring, on a Saturday night dive. Worked good, except when I would dump air and use my left hand and had to let go of the light, then it spun once or twice, flashing as it did. Guess there's nothing to do about that, right? Other than that, it seemed to be a good position to have it in. Thanks.
