I am looking for somewhere to go from mid december till early january.

Would like hot weather, things to do on non diving days, maybe a liveaboard for a few days. Would love to see mantas as well. (not asking for much!!!)

any recommendations? have looked at thailand and mexico.....

Thanks

Dec-March is manta mating season at Yap , Micronesia. Their main attraction is all the mantas who live there year round. In fact, I think some resorts guarantee mantas or your money back. The topside attractions there are the local culture, that has remained intact despite tourism.

any idea of the best way to get there? Any other places anyone can think of?

I would book through a travel agency that specializes in dive travel. Flights can be long and I think Continental is the only airline that flies into Micronesia other than one from Asia (don't know which one thought). Flying from UK means you will probably go the opposite way from us, so I really can't give you an advice, that is why I would contact the travel agencies. They will know. Here are a few:
Island Dreams Travel scuba diving vacations, cozumel scuba diving, dive travel, dive resorts, diving trips
Ultimate Dive Travel - Scuba Diving Tours - Scuba Dive Vacation (this is who we used for our Palau trip in 2007)
Caradonna Dive Adventures - Dive Travel and Vacations (used them for a trip recently)
