Summer camp for divers…go for a week and dive dive dive. They do lots of instruction. Your kid will love it. All IMHO, YMMV.

I would look into Utila Dive Center. They specialize in instruction, most days most of the boats are dedicated to classes (as opposed to many dive centers splitting their time between guided trips and classes), and their instructors are top notch (they are also one of the top instructor training programs). It's an easy reef to teach on, and an easy reef to learn on. Another added benefit IMO is that they don't sell gear so the focus is on reaching you to dive, not selling you the latest and greatest gear. Additionally, the island is cheap and fun to stay on, and easy to get to from Ohio ( I was traveling from Columbus, flew CMH-Houston-Roatan, then a quick ferry over).

Wherever you go, be smart and do your e-learning and homework at home first. Don’t ruin your vacation holiday by taxing your mind with the stress of studying new material, rather go there with a sense of familiarity about the subject matter that only requires a revision in-person with the instructor.

I am familiar with the Cincinnati Dive shops. Check out Central Coast (they are in northern Kentucky) or Scuba Unlimited. Both are pretty good shops (Central Coast has its own pool) - and they often have location specific cert trips (bonaire, cancun, cayman, bahamas, etc.)
I was at the spring cleanup day for Gilboa Quarry last weekend with two divers who use Central Coast as their local dive shop and they were really happy with the shop and the training that they got with the instructor. If I was near there I would definitely look into them.
