Anybody planning on diving tomorrow? I'm looking for a good spot to go along the beach. Sounds like Malibu is out, due to some surf and swell, and Laguna is apparently closed as well.

Does anybody have a forecast on Palos Verdes/Marineland/Malaga tomorrow?

Laguna closed?
Hmmm...We're planning for tomorrow dive in Laguna.

ha ha, diving in laguna will be fun, with the big waves! lol, unless you go deep, of course (deadmans reef?) but most people in laguna go shallow, he he he

oh wait, never mind, beaches are closed there.

yep, diving in malibu is out, I just called the surf report, its too high for diving.

malaga is north facing, so you can dive there, but the vis might not be great

casino dive park will be good

marineland is always diveable, if you are experienced and able to time waves at the cove, and then swim out to the point.

vets park is also always diveable, below 60ft. you might have to time waves though, although it often is protected from the SW swells.

hope this helps!

That was helpful Scott.
I haven't done Vets park for a long time. May be I'll ask other guys to try that!
Thanks

We're taking turns posting on these two threads now, Andy.

Thanks for the suggestions Scott.

I'd be willing to give Vet's a shot even though there's not a whole lot to see during the day. I just love breathing underwater!

yes, I usually tell people there's not a lot to see in the day. But I did a day dive there sunday, and it exceeded my expectations. Check out my photos from sunday

You just have to go slow and look around carefully. Having a camera helps make the dive interesting. Bring quarters for parking.

Wow! Those are some great pictures and a lot more than I'd expect to see during the day.

Thanks,

Adam

The swells are from the south, so Marineland will be protected. I'll be there before 7:00. There will be groups from Dive n Surf as well as Reef Check there at 8:00

Thanks Adam!

ok, here are some more helpful hints:

when there is a strong SW swell, Leo and Laguna can't be dove. www.wetsand.com will give you the swell size and angle (the more the angle is from the south, the harder they will be hit).

to find out if the swell report is wrong, call 310-457-9701 to check the surf in malibu. (1 foot is great, 1-3 is diveable, 3-4 feet is not diveable). the surf in laguna will be similar. (www.lagunaseasports.com)

that leaves marineland, malaga, and vets. they are all near each other. check marineland first, if its too surgy malaga is a quick drive north along the coast, then vets is just a little bit more. its quite easy to jump out of the car and check conditions at all 3 places.

marineland - nudibranch heaven between 40 -65 ft near the "point" (not at the cove), rocky reef, tons of invertebrates

malaga - shallow , rocky, kelp; max depth 35ft; must enter/exit at the sandy beach at low tide

vets - lots of sand, gets nice and deep (100ft no problem), lots of flatfish, small stuff
