Where to dive in South Africa in September(2005)

A friend and I are looking to go diving this September in south Africa, I would appreciate any information on where is best to dive and dive centers people have used before.

South Africa has many areas to dive. Where/which area are you going to? East coast = warmer water down from Mozambique, South Coast = colder, West = cold. Almost all have dive operators and the majority are pretty decent.

Hey Vij

If you get the chance to dive Aliwal Shoal during September you wont regret it. You should see lots of Ragged Tooth Sharks as it is the mating season. Also two great wrecks to choose from.

Sodwana would also be a good dive destination during that time.

My friend and I are going to be in Durban in the second week of September. So are there any must see sights or a better area to dive in?

I have done any open water padi course however that is where my experince stops so I am looking to do a refresher and then do advanced padi ( or something along those lines). My friend on the other hand will be doing her open water padi course.

Just wanted some guidance as to where would be best, presently looking to go diving in Durban in the second week of Sept. but if you have any other suggestions they would be welcome.

vij1980 : the closest reefs to Durban are Aliwal Shoal (just 30 minutes away) and Protea Banks.

To dive Protea Banks however, you will need an advanced certification, so the best bet is Aliwal Shoal.
