Because I'm using it to dive 60ft or less and just want a small backup air source without having to deal with anything larger than a 13.

Spare Air?

So I'm planning to get a AL13 pony.

Why such a big price discrepancy between the online sellers?

Scuba.com has it for $157 shipped - Catalina with Thermo yoke valve
XS Scuba 13 Cubic Foot Aluminum Tank AL13 with reviews at scuba.com

LP has it for $100 shipped - Catalina with Harrison/Sherwood pro valve, needs VIP
Catalina Pony Bottle Tanks, Yellow with Pro Valve | LeisurePro

ScubaToys has it for $148 after tax - Luxfer/Catalina with XS Scuba pro valve
13 Cubic Foot Pony Bottle discounts on sale XS Scuba

I know the valves are different, but even after factoring that in, the bottle prices are not close.

Have you asked your LDS ?

I purchased a AL40 as a deco bottle. The LDS price was about (IIRC) $20-$25 higher than LP. I asked, I bought the tank from them + a 10 tank refill card. They threw in the VIP and filled the bottle with 80% O2.

I think we both got a good deal

I just checked. That LP deal includes free std shipping. Good luck beating that. BTW, while I would expect the hydro to be reasonably current, I would not be surprised if it is a year old.

I would be a real jerk if I bought a bottle on-line and then took it into my local shop for a viz and fill.

Maybe, but im not too worried about it since they'll make more off me on the annual vip and air fills than they will off the tank.

I bought my car in another town but take it to my local dealer with no problem. They seem to appreciate the business. Is that wrong?

Is an LDS more like a movie theater where there is a sign prohibiting outside snacks? I have never seen such a sign in an LDS.

Maybe you need another LDS.
