Costa Rica has tons of stuff to do topside. Delta flys there, in fact they are usually one of the cheaper flights. We are going there on a Friday, July 29th & returning the next Friday, August 5th. We are diving with richcoastdiving.com and staying at hotel-villa-flores.com That should give you some ideas.

Another idea might be Ambergris Caye in Belize, or maybe Roatan

Ok, so I have now accumulated 20 vacation days and if dont take some soon.....I lose them.

But where to go???

I have a gf who doesnt dive, but she has no problems with me diving. But I would like a place where when I am not diving... there are things to see and do.

I also have 135,000 Delta sky miles and it would be nice to go somewhere Delta gets me there and back.

So....put your heads together and lets see what we can come up with. Time wise I am pretty flexible......I am just looking for the most bang for the buck.

My thoughts would be to leave on a Friday spend a weekend there....a week there....and one more weekend....and come back the next Monday....so I can get two weekends in there....where ever there is.

Rich

PS....I have already been to Bonaire, St. John, St. Thomas and Barbados. Right now I am drifting toward Barbados again... maybe the Turks and Caicos....help!!

Don't know if Delta flies there, but it is near the Nile Delta . . .

Quite a combination of experiences offered!

Go to Key Largo, stay at Amoray Dive Resort: http://www.amoray.com/ They have everything onsite and while with your gf, you can go to Miami or Key West to hang around. Then hop to another key to dive... At Amoray, people there are so friendly and the place is beautiful! Good luck!

Actually....Im not very pro Mexico right now. Coz is having a few problems I do not wish to encounter. Travel alerts are out about Coz right now. QUOTE]

RICHinNC----I just check with the State Department website http://travel.state.gov/ and there is no mention of any alerts or problems in Cozumel.

There are problems at the boarder of Mexico and the US which is ongoing and has to do with Drugs, gangs and etc. Cozumel is far from the boarder.

Can you please site your sources so we can all be better informed for our personal safety?

Thanks,

AZDivers

With 135k miles, you can take two to Egypt (Red Sea) or Turkey. Diving in the Mediterranean or Black Sea is not, shall we say, tropical, but there's lots of above-water activities for you & gf. Red Sea is spectacular, from what I've heard. Or you could do Israel/Jordan; though I'm not quite sure about the mileage or partner airlines.

Costa Rica also caters to nondivers.

Depends a lot on what your gf is interested in; "roughing it" or 5-star-ish resorts. Wilderness or non-wilderness. Tacky touristy stuff, or touristy stuff, but non-tacky.

There was a recent spate of postings in the General/Caribbean forums regarding Montserrat. I think that would be a very unique destination; off the beaten path, etc. Just make sure not to fall into the volcano there! :D

Thanks all...keep the ideas coming.

Here are my thoughts....

1. I would love to go back to Bonaire, but AJ sucks...isnt dependable.....and my gf does not dive. She was good the first time I went there.... but dont know about twice in a row. And no, i cant go without her this time.

2. I would love to go to Barbados but the flight is just sooooo dang long. It is a really cool island and the gf would love it, but I have already been there.

3. Considering I want a relative short flight and prefer Delta to get there....all the wild long distance places are out.

4. Sooooo....right now....Turks and Caicos is way ahead in my thoughts. Fly to and stay on Provo.

Anyone have some economical places to stay suggestions???

How about Los Cabos or La Paz in Mexico? The diving isn't coral reefs, it's more big critters. Especially in La Paz in summer/late summer, you could find yourself some whale sharks... Lots of land activities for your gf (but be sure to say "no!" to the timeshare sales guys! ;) )

We haven't made it to T&C yet, but we've always heard the Comfort Suites were some of the more economical accomodations at Provo. You can check their web site and see if that's along the lines you're looking for - and you can maybe get more Delta miles from your accomodations.
