So my boyfriend and I are on vacation next week and we need some places to dive, shore diving to be exact. We live in maine and I was wondering if anyone knew how the shore diving in Pennsylvania was? we had been looking at dutch springs in bethlehem but I personally love the ocean diving more so if anyone knew of any great shore diving down there any advice would be great! this is my first summer diving and his second.

Dutch Springs is great to get back into the swing of things and there is a lot of stuff sunk in the quarry if you have never been there. You can easily get in four dives in a day.

Pennsylvania doesn't have any ocean shore line, so you are out of luck there, but you can quickly get over to NJ or Delaware. I am not sure about shore dive opportunities however. You can check NJscuba.net.

I have never dived it, but there is a train wreck in the Delaware River near the Delaware Water Gap. If you search "Delaware River Train" you will find a few threads with details.

I love NJ wreck diving... but can't stand NJ shore diving. Few spots of interest. Iffy vis/conditions. Lots of people fishing this time of year. Need to deal with tides, etc. Some people like it. Not for me.

Note about Dutch Springs: you may not have noticed on the website but you can camp there on Friday and Saturday nights if that is of any interest. Makes for a nice (inexpensive) weekend if you have a tent, etc.

Rhode Island has lots of nice shore diving in Newport and Jamestown, and possibly Block Island. Are you looking for guided dives, or for going out on your own?

thank you! I'm definitely going to check it out! its about a 7 hour drive for me so staying overnight would be a great idea haha!

I plan on going out on my own, I have researched some on those two towns definitely a possibility! sounds like they have some great shore diving!

Cape Ann is not too far from you. Fort Wetherill, Jamestown RI is a good spot for you to stop off on your way South. Visibility is usually minimal but its free, easy parking and kind of on your way south. Dutch Springs is a fun quarry/water park/dive training facility, but it is roughly two hours drive inland.
