Where do you guys place SMB, lift bags, spools and reels on your harness ? I recently started diving BP and this question automatically pops up. thanks for your opinions.

If you have drysuit pockets that is a good place to start with smaller items or soft goods. I keep the smb/lift bags in my drysuit pocket and a spare mask in one of them also.

Everything else gets clipped to the butt D-ring where it is easy to reach yet prevents anything from dangling below my profile.

If you're diving a backplate and wing either use your drysuit pockets or purchase a bellows pocket to put on the waist strap. If you dive a can light you can push the can light all the way back and then put the pocket next to it. I used a plastic buckle to keep my pocket on the waist strap when I didn't have the rig on. In it I kept wet notes, a 100' fingerspool, DSMB, and a whistle. I believe mine was XS scuba, but I know dive rite and halcyon also make the same thing.

I have not put the pockets on the dry suit yet, so the BP and harness is all I have at the moment. Butt D-ring sounds good. I will try to do that.

Me too :D

You will def want to have pockets in your drysuit. I don't know how I would deal without them.

This is the maximum load of reels and bags I have carried in one go this far and how I carry them:

Reel: Butt d-ring the little while when not deployed*
Big (emergency) bag: In MC pack
Small bag pre-rigged with spool and ready to come out : In DS pocket
Back up spool (for the emergency bag/and or reel): In the other DS pocket

* I do not take big clumsy reels unless I anticipate reeling/reeling and tying off as major part of the dive. In other cases (like gapping a little distance from mooring line to wreck) I would add another spool in pocket

Not something to be taken lightly, do you know how to do this correctly?

I have found a topic on SB that was explaining details on how to glue them properly. I think this season I will be diving w/o them but over the winter I will definitely put two of them as I feel their shortage even now. Today I was diving with the SMB and spool attached to the plate holes on my right side, fairly manageable, so I think I will live with it for some time.
